I have done a number of these, simple little snippets of code that can
be included in articles within your Joomla! site. The following is a
brief history and outline of the mambots that I have developed with my
fair hands, plus some instruction on how to use.

Well, after a long spell of me not doing much at all, it is time to launch an update and something new. After much messing around and a number of suggestions I have finally updated the mosviewonly mambot to include the following features; - Integration with the excellent MAL component from Mambobrothers. This gives you quite a few more groups to play with, which are dynamically integrated with the mambot to allow you to define any group within the {viewonly=...} tag.
- A new parameter option in the backend, which allows you to define an exception message. The exception message will only appear if the user viewing the text is not a member of the groups defined within the {viewonly=...} tag.
Special thanks go to Ashley Jade Hamilton (aka Jade) who provided idea's and a fair amount of code for the exception message code. |

I have completed the conversion of my mosviewonly mambot for Mambo 4.5.1a! As with the previous version, this mambot allows you to hide certain blocks of texts within your articles to defined group members, these being public, registered and special. The mambot can be downloaded from here. |

Unfortunately mambots are currently only available within content items and nowhere else. This is because the mambots use the $row->text variable, used internally within Mambo to hold the intro and main texts, to make the customisations to. |

After some very constructive e-mail conversations with Anne Hennegar and Ray Roman, I think I may have ironed out a number of fairly major bugs with the mosviewonly mosbot. |

I have now finished my first mambot which I have called mosviewonly. This little addition allows you to specify areas of your content which you want viewable only by certain group members. The groups being the three standard Mambo groups; - public
- registered
- special
