Mambo Developers Letter To The Community
Wednesday, 17 August 2005

important announcement icon Much has been said about the Mambo Open Source project and the establishment of the Mambo Foundation to benefit the future of Mambo.

We, the core development teams, unanimously believe:

 • An open source project is about people producing free and open software and contributing to something as a team for the benefit of others.

 • Open source projects reflect the spirit of collaboration and fun while garnering community feedback and providing good governance that allows for business to confidently invest in its development.

 • Open source projects are open to the participation of anybody who can contribute value and is willing to work with the community.

We, the development team, have serious concerns about the Mambo Foundation and its relationship to the community. We believe the future of Mambo should be controlled by the demands of its users and the abilities of its developers. The Mambo Foundation is designed to grant that control to Miro, a design that makes cooperation between the Foundation and the community impossible.

 • The Mambo Foundation was formed without regard to the concerns of the core development teams. We, the community, have no voice in its government or the future direction of Mambo. The Mambo Steering Committee made up of development team and Miro representatives authorized incorporation of the Foundation and should form the first Board. Miro CEO Peter Lamont has taken it upon himself to incorporate the Foundation and appoint the Board without consulting the two development team representatives, Andrew Eddie and Brian Teeman.

 • Although Mr. Lamont through the MSC promised to transfer the Mambo copyright to the Foundation, Miro now refuses to do so.

What we will do: We will continue to develop and improve a version of this award-winning software project currently released under the GNU General Public License. We wish Miro and the Mambo Foundation well and regret that we are not able to work with them.

We have retained the Software Freedom Law Center to advise us in this matter and will release more information about our short-term plan in the near future.

mambofrance.orgNice article about troozers.com on the French Mambo fansite, mambofrance.org. Maybe, if and when I pull my finger out, I can get some of my old articles and the new ones I have in the planning phase translated into French by these guys?

Until then, all you French speakers out there, take a browse around this sweetly designed site.

A New Look
Monday, 04 July 2005

news iconI have put some new clothes on my site, mainly cos I was kinda getting bored with the old one. Hopefully this one is a bit brighter and easier to read than my older notepad look. As always, feel free to drop me a line with any comments.

I will try and improve the old template, by making it Mac and Opera compatible, and posting it within my downloads as a template.

Pharmaceuticals are NOT us!

spamAfter loads of links being added onto my "Latest Referrers" list, I have decided to stop this particular module being displayed. I am not quite sure how they do that, so will need to investigate my logs further, cos I never seem to find my site on these Pharmecy, Warez, and other assorted Pornographic sites!

I took the view that you really didn't need some of the products advertised there. If I find a resolution to this issue, I will post the solution here and work with the "Latest Referrer" developer to resolve this.

Adopt A Chinese Blog
Tuesday, 21 June 2005

talk iconAfter reading a terrific new idea by Technorati, and being aware of the background of this via the BBC News website and The Register, I have decided to "Adopt a Chinese Blogger".

If you want to help support this effort, all you need to do is to put the following code; adoptablog somewhere on your site. Of course, you need to have one of the blogging tools available on your site or be able to install one.

So, if you are Chinese, affected by this, and wish me to host your site, drop me a line with your requirements and lets see how we get on.
